Web Design

(making your window to the world wide web look above-and-beyond the competition)

about web design

Web design has a very simple mission brief. It can be applied to any project:

  1. instill a positive first impression
  2. build trust
  3. make life easy for the user

If you have a brick and mortar storefront (hypothetically if you don't), you'll no doubt go to great lengths to make sure that your shop is pleasing to the eye. Even a tertiary service company is likely to invest in a good looking office and pleasant surroundings.

Professional and Trustworthy

Latech specialise in accessible web design that is visually engaging, easy to use, professional and trustworthy. With web design it is vital to invest in a website that looks stunning, is built well, is ready for search engines, and loads very quickly. Looking good will make a positive first impression; being built well, getting found in search engines and loading fast all make life for the end user easy.

It's imperative that you do the same with a website. A DIY design chocked full of clip art and garish colours is not a very good way to establish the trust of web users. Most often potential customers will take one look and leave, taking their money with them, rather than going through the painstaking process of actually trying to buy a product or service.

As we keep mentioning, establishing trust (and confidence) in a website is something we place a heavy emphasis on. It's like comparing 'Honest' Dave's to a Jaguar dealership. Looking good goes a huge way to instilling a positive competitive impression.

Research

Every part of a website needs to be taken into account: research about the subject, research about the target audience, fonts and colours, graphics and photos, a lot of CSS and XHTML coding (all standards-compliant of course), adaptation to the delivery platform of choice, and then any other extra bits that are necessary. All of this work is needed to make a positive impact on the two main visitors to a website: potential customers and search engines.

Care

High quality web design needs time, knowledge and skill. Good web design must be constructed carefully, and filled with relevant text for visitors to encourage them to spend their money with you. A website is a gateway to the internet and the millions of people who use it; and if a website is done properly, it can do its job 24 hours a day.

what's involved?

Firstly, we'll liaise with you to establish exactly what the site will need to contain, and how many pages this will need. We'll then give you a ball-park cost estimate for the project and a timescale.

Once you've hired us, we'll draw up a contract that acknowledges the fee and exactly what content you'll be provided with. It will have our terms and conditions in, and it will also state what we need from you: such as text for web pages or photos of your office for example. In all, the contract isn't all that extravagant, just an outline of what is going to happen.

Then we start to grapple building the project, conducting all sorts of arcane techocraft. At the end of it, we'll present you (on our test servers) a finished product.

what does it cost?

We have a standard rate of £20 per hour for web design work: we'll calculate how much a project will cost based on this.

You can get a rough idea of the cost by using our free and anonymous price estimator >> (www.latech.co.uk/online-web-design-cost-price-estimate.php)

If the project is projected to cost less than £200, then we will require payment in full for first time clients. Return clients and projects over £200 are payable half up front, and half upon completion.
